Congratulations to the 12 students who work is exhibited at West Creek. We celebrated with a lovely reception last night!
2nd graders created an "Exquisite Corpse-like" drawing together with a classmates. EC is an old parlor game where one person starts a drawing and another finishes it WITHOUT looking at what has been done by the first drawer. To make it even more fun, we teamed up with Godwin High School Art Department! The 2nd grade drawings were sent to Godwin High School where Art students "completed" and embellished the creatures. Some creatures are even being made into 3D soft sculptures! Next Wednesday, March 11th, Godwin is holding an art reception with selected works from this project. All are welcome! Please see below for details. You may also click on the image to view some of the monster mash-ups on Artsonia.
Check out our blog EVERY DAY in March in celebration of Youth Art Month! You will see artist information, in-progress photos, special events, and more.
From the NAEA website: Festivities take place annually, traditionally each March, to celebrate visual arts for grades K – 12. The Youth Art Month Program emphasizes the value of art education for all children, encourages support for quality school art programs, and promotes art material safety. On Thursday's morning show Taylor P. and friends shared some artwork and information about a local artist and architect - her grandfather! Mr. P. says he "loves art because he feels like he can let out all of his emotions into his artwork." He has 3 children and 6 grandchildren. Mr. P. likes to work with all mediums including oil paint and lithography (printing). His advice to children is: "to always work hard and try your best." Thank you Mr. P, Taylor, Kristin, and Bella! (April Fools) Sorry, I missed yesterday so we will act like it is the last day of March... Thank you Jack, Yumo, and Maillie for "wrapping up" Youth Art Month for me on the morning announcements. Nuckols Foxes celebrated the importance of art all month long in many wonderful ways. Thank you parents for helping to instill within your students a love of creativity, risk, hard work, craftsmanship. problem solving, and unique expression, along with all the many other skills which art gives us. (A side note...a group of NF teachers had fun creating cool clay projects in the art studio and then made a visit to All Fired Up to glaze! Stay tuned for the results!) Great job Preston and Artharva! These 4th graders shared some information about Andy Wahol on the morning announcements: We would like to tell you about Andy Warhol. He was an artist and was from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Andy Warhol was a POP artist and painted most of his work in the 1960’s. Pop Artists used people and objects from popular culture. This means the things that we see and use everyday. He often repeated those things over and over again (like soup cans). Pop artists did this a lot because they thought that many people did not stop and look at the things that they see every day. He also used photographs of famous people like Elvis and Marilyn Monroe. Andy Warhol started as an illustrator, then became famous for his work as a painter, then a filmmaker, a record producer, and an author. He was BUSY! We enjoyed a wonderful reception at Our Lady of Hope Health Center (next door!) yesterday. This gave young and old an opportunity to enjoy some art and conversation. Thank you to all the students and parents who were able to join us for this special event. An extra special guest was Mr. Fox, a resident of the center. A longtime professional artist, Mr. Fox (yes, can you believe it?!) exhibited two watercolor paintings (one a fox!) alongside the students' work and also shared his portfolio of work. Students were thrilled to meet him and be able to ask questions about his artwork. Thank you to Ms. Merritt, Director of Activities, and the entire staff for helping us make this such a meaningful event. Sydney and Anna did a wonderful job on Tuesday's morning announcements. They shared information about Georgia O'Keefe. Georgia O'Keefe was an American painter who loved her flowers. Her large paintings showed the flowers up close, as if through a magnifying lens. O'Keefe said that she was able to express things through her paintings that words were unable to do. Soon you will be able to view some wonderful flowers from 2nd grade artists that were inspired by Georgia O'Keefe! |
